Protect your Home this Autumn
Cold days and wintry nights come around all too quickly at this time of year, and if you’re like us, you’ll be desperate to spend time at home in the warm.
But how would you feel if you came home to find your place ransacked and your prized possessions taken?
The last thing we want to do is scare you, but unfortunately it’s a fact that the number of burglaries increase by approximately 20% during the darker months.
As the clocks go back this weekend, we thought it’d be an ideal time to remind you of a few things you can do to prevent being a victim of crime. All our tips are either free to do, or cost very little to put in place.
Simple Security Tips
Make your home look occupied by using timer switches to turn lights, radios, TVs etc. on and off.
If you have one for your home or business, use it. Intruder alarms are the main deterrent for burglars.
Install a sensor light so your pathway and front door are well lit as someone approaches.
Trim all your bushes on the approach to your front door so no one will be able to hide behind them.
Double Lock Doors
Double lock your doors when possible. If you have a UPVC door, remember lifting the handle does not lock the door. Lift the handle then lock the door with a key.
Use Correct Locks
Make sure you have the correct locks on your main entry and exit doors. If you’re not sure whether yours are OK, contact us for a free, no obligation survey.
This may sound obvious but always double check your windows are shut and locked securely when you leave your property.
Don’t be Distracted
Be aware of people trying to distract you away from your property, especially during the early evenings. They may have an accomplice ready to enter your house or business.
